Always interesting to watch a political film like this and notice just how little has changed. The only major differences are that scandals could be controlled via TV appearances and selected media back then, whereas now they have a life of their own. But equally, back then a scandal caused actual damage, whereas now the public are so inured to them and so disillusioned, politicians are able to just ignore or deny the scandal and plough on until the frenzy dies down. The conclusion of this film is so strong, the case it makes about 'the best of a bad bunch' is genuinely persuasive and extremely depressing for that reason. Was really pleasantly surprised by this. Wish there were more decent political dramas.
