Discuss A Man Called Otto

Saw this last night. I liked it-- you pretty much knew, based on the trailer, that this was going to be the standard "Grumpy Character, Who, Once You Find Out His Backstory, Turns Out To Be Not So Bad And He Warms Your Heart" --type of movie.

So the typical GCWOYFOHBTOTBNSBAHWYH storyline!:)

This movie will not be remembered as one of Tom Hanks' "greats" like The Money Pit, Big, Saving Private Ryan, or Castaway, but as a genre "feel good" movie it is adequate.

The only criticism I've heard thus far is that it is quite different from Fredrick Backman's book (which I haven't read). So if you are expecting that, you might be disappointed.

Minor Spoiler Alert:

Some viewers might criticize the reactions of the people when the old man (not Otto) falls onto the train tracks, but if we are being honest, it was not unrealistic at all:

All too often in our modern society, while horrific things are happening, people stand around and record it on their phones, without actually-- or even thinking to --taking action to help the person in distress. I am glad the filmmakers included that scene-- it was a sad yet necessary commentary on our society.
