I will concede that a scientific, engineering type of inventor might be expected to have better command of the language...but I've met enough scientific, engineering type people to know that that expectation is not highly realistic and, in the scenario of this movie, the comfortable, colloquial approach is more accessible to the target audience.
It's a silly feel-good family movie, not a dissertation or grad level lecture.
