He may not have been a fit for this one but he did well in Gangs of New York, very well in Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood, and was splendid in Django Unchained, to name just a few.

Of course, nobody's perfect :-)
I suppose I should have been more specific. I meant anything set before the middle of the 19th century. It might be that I'm not a fan of DiCaprio (but I doubt it)? I rewatched the movie last night & it immediately stood out how bad his performance was. Maybe he felt out of his element? Or maybe it was a job he really didn't want? Who knows?
I saw this movie so long ago I can't remember much. But yea in general I don't think Leo is cut out for 300 year old period pieces. I think he's a good actor, but that archaic accent is hard to pull off, and if an actor can't nail it then it just sounds awkward. I actually think John Malkovich had the best approach in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc where he played the king of France... he didn't even try to do an accent! He just spoke the way he always does and gosh darnit it worked.

He pretty much did the same in this movie. The only one of the Musketeers who actually spoke French & had a proper accent was Depardieu.

lol I forgot he was in this too! John Malkovich can get away with it because, well, he's malkovich malkovich malkovich
I watched some of the first 1/2 hour of this movie the other month, when one of my cable stations aired it, and totally agree with you, brat. DiCaprio and Malcovich killed any possibility of me being able to get in to it.

I liked Malkovich, he can play a period role rather well, remember Dangerous Liaisons? I just thought Leo was all wrong for the part.
