Discuss Society of the Snow

People will tell you this ain't remake of Alive, but it's telling same story as Alive 30 years ago and brings nothing new besides updated production. 7/10

It's decent movie, but if you have seen Alive it's really unnecessary to watch it, I was misled this brings some different view, but it doesn't really.

If you haven't seen Alive go on and enjoy the movie, can't really tell which one of them is better for first time viewing.

Remake? bro, this happened in real life. Also, much better told than Alive!. (Which is nothing more than a Yankee movie starring Ethan Hawke, full of fake scenes to fill it with fake emotion. The snow society is much more real and sentimental.

I think you should learn what remake means.

Also the link above pretty much sums it's just remake (not just my opinion), there is slightly longer (useless) intro, they removed whitewashing (you need subtitles now) and added more pathetic narrator, other than that it's just updated version scene for scene for kids who haven't seen Alive.

If you have seen Alive and you have anything else to watch them avoid this pathetic waste of time and rather watch The Eight Mountains for better movie (2022).

I tried watching Alive many, many years ago and couldn't get into it. It might have been because I just wasn't in the mood or I was too young but I found it boring, uninvolving and cold (no pun intended). I should and probably will give it another go at some point.

With Society of the Snow on the other hand, I was hooked instantly. Within a minute of screen time I could tell this was going to be a much better version of the story. It felt instantly more authentic. It's presentation of time, place and characters just seemed spot on and drew in interest. The whole thing was just better made, it articulated the situation and conditions the characters were enduring incredibly well, better than any other disaster movie I've seen. The cinematography was better, the acting was better, the writing was better and the film actually had philosophical themes to explore that gave it a surprising depth such as existentialism and the limits of religion.

It also had the most realistic plane crash ever filmed. I really, really hope I'm never in a plane crash.

Is it necessary that the film exists? I don't know. But I'm glad it exists.
