宇宙ステーションを乗っ取り身柄を拘束された設計者は、先祖から続く地獄の使者との戦いを語りだした。地獄の扉を開けるためとは知らずにパズル・ボックスを作ってしまった、中世の玩具職人。地獄の扉を永遠に開放するためにパズル・ボックスの完成を強要される、現代の建築デザイナー。そして未来、地獄の使者との戦いに終止符を打つため彼らを呼び出した設計者は、代々研究が受け継がれてきた魔を封印する箱を完成させて戦いに臨む。過去、現在、未来と三つの時代にまたがり展開される、「ヘルレイザー」シリーズの4作目。
