Every time I watch this film, it gets to me for some reason. No, I’ve never been a pilot or had an accident related to being intoxicated at the time, however watching Whip fall deep into a deep drinking abyss and succumbing to drug-addled binges made me think of myself. I lived a life of drugs and partying for several years, where there wasn’t really anything I’d turn down. From around maybe late 2004-2007, most of the time is a blur of drugs, booze and sex.

I felt kinda bad for how it ended up with him and Nicole, but they were most likely a bad thing waiting to happen. A functioning drunk and a recovering junkie: what a pair they would make, and even if they tried, I’m sure there would be a tragic relapse. It hurts, but I think they’re really better being away from each other, tbh.
