This franchise was like "Star Wars" before there was a "Star Wars". I think the original movie is one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. I'm curious to hear other opinions. Does anyone want to talk about it?

From someone who loved the book, I love this movie adaption too, which is rare, although both film and novel are radically different. One of the most iconic endings in cinema with great perfomances and special effects for its time.

I agree with both of you. This movie was ground breaking in many ways. I also love Beneath the Planet of the Apes. All of the original 5 movies have something unique to offer.

@Taylorfirst1
I went through a box set of these films quite recently and would certainly agree with that in terms of the stories. It's just a shame the investment seemed to drop steadily with each outing.
Escape's plot helped keep any budget pressures to a minimum I guess but the cracks were definitely beginning to show in Conquest. Battle still had a pretty decent story but the actual battle, featuring the motorbike and school bus was a bit of a shame.
I reckon they should do some George Lucas special edition work with that particular scene - if any scene really needed some cgi "bulking up" it's that one 😁

Agree totally. POTA is one of those films I can re-watch any time. The only film in the franchise I don't like seeing again is "Escape" because of the ending. Zira and Cornelius are among my all time favorite characters of any film franchise.

Anyone remember the cartoon? I have vague recollections of watching it as a wee lad.

I just binge watched "Return To The Planet Of The Apes" a few months ago on HULU, DS. It was better than I remembered. The animation and sound fx still suck. (The MERCURY space capsule sounds like the road-runner when it goes into time warp).The writing was okay; not great but not bad either.
