Was it Costner's accent? Ok so it was bad but so was Sean Connery's "Russian" (Ok, "Lithuanian") accent in Red October. I loved this movie. It was light hearted and fun with a great cast. Seriously the late great Alan Rickman totally stole the show with this one. I also adore Michael Wincot as Gisbourne, I love Christian Slater in most anything he's in. Morgan Freeman turns in a good performance here too. There were also great side characters like Duncan and Bull. Seriously, what's not to like about this movie?

All in all I agree with you, especially as far as the secondary roles are concerned and of course Alan Rickman ruled. He made the film. However, my problem with it (and I saw it that one time when it came out in the cinemas) was Costner himself. Not at all a good fit for Robin.

Costner though a good actor was terribly miscast in this role, the movie itself owes alot to the far superior Robin of Sherwood TV series.
Goofs I remember being picked up upon from the time are, the American accent (Of course!), Nazir - Oh I mean Azeem using a not yet invented telescope and Richard the Lionheart being far too old.
Having said that Alan Rickman was great and the look of the film good but its not a patch on Robin of Sherwood or Errol Flynn’s Robin Hood.

Not to mention Robin's trip from Dover to Nottingham via Hadrian's Wall in seemingly under 24 hours on foot.

The White Cliffs are near Dover (bottom right), Hadrian's Wall near the top and Nottingham is close to the centre.
It was entertaining, but I don't think I was ever moved to rewatch it.
