I think the plot twist was badly implemented.

So, what happened is that the 2 kids were playing, she fell and died, then their father buried her and parents forced Ryan to dress as girl and be called by the name of his dead sister?

Ok, this is a thriller fiction, but that's too much implausible. And why would the cop know and cope with that?

Then what happened? At some point Ryan moved to care for his grandmother, and the parents kidnapped and drugged a girl to pass by Carrie Anne? With the cop's connivance?

Because the cop was together with the parents on this, I thought that maybe he lied on traveling to tell Ryan about the murder and Ryan remained on the house the whole time, but then where was him while a kidnapped girl was passing by his sister? What would have happened from when he was dressing as her to having a kidnapped girl passing by her?

That's why I think it was badly implemented. Director seemed to wanna reveal Ryan was being dressed and called as his sister only on the last minute, but due to that it isn't explained when they started kidnapping.

Tnx. So, it was him to killed his parents, and only then kidnapped the girl?

But then, why did the cop cope with this all? Carrie Anne death, they locking him, him killing them. To the point he'd lie saying he traveled 3h to tell him about the murder.

And they told the lie that he was sent to care for his grandmother back when he was a kid? How would parents send a around-10-yo child to care alone for his old grandmother?

It's also bad writing that a girl is kidnapped and she has no identity, nobody is missing.

Sorry, I can't help with the rest as I have never seen the movie.

lol no problem, this is huge on spoiler u souldn't have read it :p

I love spoilers, they do not ruin a movie for me at all. But I will say I hated learning that Bond died in NTTD as I hadn't seen it yet. It's the only spoiler I have hated.

Yes.

Officer Bill Weaver was using drugs with the parents on the day Carrie Anne died. The father told him that he didn't have any choice than to go along with everything. Bill didn't have any choice, because if the authority found out what Bill was doing there, he'd get in a lot of trouble himself. And after a while Bill was in too deep to ever admit what really happened.

The parents said that Ryan had gone to stay with his aunt Iris. When Ryan was 18 years old, she had a stroke and he had to take care of her. After she was hospitalized, he came back home.

A lot of people go missing. Here are statistics for the US: Missing Persons by State 2022

Where are these info available?

So the cop had a reason to cope up with them. But still, I see implausible that he'd allow them to dress Ryan as girl. He should have persuaded them to just create a lie for the missing of Carrie Anne and not allow them to do that all with him.

The parents said that Ryan had gone to stay with his aunt Iris. When Ryan was 18 years old, she had a stroke and he had to take care of her. After she was hospitalized, he came back home.

So first he would go live with his aunt, to only years later they create the lie that she had a stroke?

The cop also said that after the murder Ryan brought his aunt and she died a year before. Was it a blatant lie? It'd be easy to talk to any neighbor and find out the aunt was never there. Of course, Ryan is very reclusive and ppl also don't wanna get close to him, but it'd be at least suspicious that nobody ever see her. But my point is that this lie is kinda risky for being relatively easy to be uncovered.

I don't mean that a girl be kidnapped is bad writing, I mean it is nobody talk or miss her. Of course a lot of ppl go missing and is never found, but most of them become subject of conversation among ppl who live on their city and known on their country and whole world, to not say all the work the police and volunteers have searching.

So it's odd to have a missing girl on a small city, who missed on the same period of the murder, and nobody talk about it, ever. If some think Carrie Anne is still living on the forest, wouldn't they guess she kidnapped or killed the girl?

In the movie.

At the end there are flashbacks with Bill and the mother in bed , high on drugs, and when they are outside the house on the porch, the father returns with a shovel and he warns Bill .

Lies: Ryan tells Elissa about staying with his aunt until she had a stroke and was hospitalized. Bill tells Sarah that he drove upstate to tell Ryan about the murders.

It is not known when and where the first girl was kidnapped. It could have happened a year after the parents were murdered. She might have been from somewhere else and not living in the town, so no one would have missed her there. And no search for this kidnapped girl by the people there.

After a massive hunt for Carrie Anne, it was concluded that she had drowned in the dam. There was no body found, so some people thought that she could still be alive in the woods. But no one really believed that story, it was just like any urban legend they tell to scare people.

Telling all those lies was risky, but police officer Bill covered up a lot and in a small town like that they know and trust him.

I remember the flashback where the father hold the shovel, I hadn't noticed the cop was using drugs, gross.

I remember both stories about the aunt, my guess is if she ever existed or is a full lie. It's sad that Ryan and the cop had the time to plan the story. When I watched the movie, I understood that he went to live with her when she had the stroke, not when a kid. Of course, Ryan hadn't ever gone live with her, so I guess he did brought her of if she doesn't exist.

Indeed, that's the only plausible explanation I can see, he having kidnapped her elsewhere. Nobody in town knew she was there and nobody looked for her.
