Is this the worst Alien movie of the series?
I think it's a toss up between this and Aliens... It really has none of the mood of the original Alien.

3 was the worst. I think 2 was the best. 4 was decent because it was like 2. In 1, Ripley's underwear was too small...that's pretty much all I remember about that one.

Alien: Covenant is the worst by far for me, I never disliked Resurrection, it had a few good moments and has a great cast but it was unnecessary just like every Alien movie since.

I don't count Prometheus or the horrendous Alien and Predator stuff when I say that this is the worst film of the series. There's nothing wrong with successors to Alien not feeling like it. Stuff like that has kept the franchise interesting. I think I saw it said somewhere that the filmmakers of this didn't know what to do with Joss Whedon's screenplay. It shows, big time.

It's a toss-up between Alien:R and Covenant for me. Alien 3 at least tried to go totally dark and wring all hope from Ripley before she finally confronted the Alien. Resurrection was just tonally uneven and ridiculous. Covenant was more about mad David, which I find endlessly uninteresting.

I made this comment/thread before Covenant was released, but while there isn't much between Covenant and Resurrection in terms of quality, at least Covenant isn't as silly... The worst part about Covenant is that it is simply a remix of earlier Alien movies... Resurrection is too much of an action movie, it's not dark enough...
Prometheus is another ballgame entirely, it's either the second or third best Alien movie... Behind the original and maybe Alien 3... in MY opinion... In fact it's good enough to be a stand alone film...

Resurrection was intentionally silly, e.g. the basketball/barbell scene, the captain, etc... It's clear the director was going for humour....
Covenant only seems silly if taken in a literal minded fault seeking way... How is a furturistic android doing genetic engineering silly when we in 2017 have been able to clone animals for decades? Covenant is in a world where suspended animation of humans is possible as well as intergallactic space travel... More importantly, in resurrection they resurrect someone! How is the former less absurd than the latter...?
Animal imprinting is a real thing and it isn't clear from Covenant to what extent that was applicable, nor was it clear that the alien wouldn't have ripped David's head off given the chance...
So, while I can see how someone could interprate any of the Alien movies as silly, I can also see that Resurrection was actually going for silly...
I will give you the flute scene though... "I'll do the fingering..." ;)

It's my least favorite out of all of them. I'd rank them something like this
Alien Aliens Prometheus Alien 3 Assembly Cut Alien Covenant Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator Requiem Alien Resurrection
I guess none of them are particularly great after Aliens but I did think Prometheus had an enjoyable cast with a few good scenes. I feel pretty much the same way about Alien 3 and Covenant. The stories are a mess but there is at least some entertainment factor in them. Alien vs Predator, Requieum, and Resurrection are all borderline terrible.

Agreed... I don't know why that is... I don't mind silliness in other movies, I recently watched The Ninth Gate and that has some silly moments as well, but somehow it was less jarring to me... In fact, I liked the silliness there...
I guess it's an attachment to the original Alien movie and how I preceived it...
