Discuter de Bob Marley: One Love

Judging by the trailer, this appears to be a biopic of Bob Marley that covers his life rather than concentrating on his love for his wife. Did some exec think, "Hey - it has love in the title, it's a shoo-in for Valentine's Day!"?

Still, at least it has "love" in the title. The other release is "Madame Web". Normally there's a romcom or some other "date" type movie.

I'm pretty sure the "One Love" comes from the song originally released in the 60s.

I have no doubt it is, and it's probably the best Marley song title to use for the film from the impression the trailer gives. The title doesn't make it a romance though - similar to how "For the Love of the Game" features some "romantic" love, but isn't a romance. Here in the UK the two new films I mentioned are specifically being released on Wednesday/Valentine's Day rather than a Friday. I'm wondering if "Madame Web" was brought forward to avoid "One Love" having a couple of extra days of takings that might get it the #1 spot for the week, though.

If it hadn't been for its earlier release in the US, I would have thought "Anyone But You" would have been a suitable release for the day, though pushing the raunch rather than the romance didn't hurt its box office. Even bringing "Lisa Frankenstein" forward by a couple of weeks might have made a better "date movie" for the night.

As you know, it is all about the strategies used by distributors to achieve the maximum effect for their goals, e.g. the box office and awards (e.g. Oscars). Determining the optimum release date is not easy, and a 'special day' isn't the only factor which is considered.

"Anyone but You (2023)" and "Madame Web (2024)" - both starring Sydney Sweeney - are from Sony Pictures Releasing. The latter had already been delayed last year, and the earliest new date in 2024 was 16 February; it was then moved up to 14 February, to take advantage of an extra two days box office earnings (5-days instead of 3-days opening weekend), so that its expected 'flop' will keep the losses manageable. "Anyone but You (2023)" was already planned for December 2023, because the box office earnings would have been better then, than in February 2024.

"Lisa Frankenstein (2024)" has already been released on 9 February 2024 in the US, Canada, Australia, and many other countries. So, anyone there can see it on Valentine's day. For some reason its release in the UK and Ireland has been delayed until 22 March 2024.

Heaven forbid that his biopic focus less on Rita and more on him!!

That's my point. It's a biopic and not a love story.

One thing they could've done was cleverly reframe the narrative in contemporary times and titled it Rat Race.
