Discuss The Killer

I like Fincher a lot, but sometimes his films can feel a little too... clinical. In this case it kinda makes sense because of the strict detached nature of the protagonist, and Fincher's direction actually elevates the movie's basic straight-to-streaming plot, but the tone and acting are what makes the film worth watching.

The trailer looked good. Great selection of actors, specially the protagonist. Director known for making good movies.

I had good expectations. Don’t know what to expect now seeing such low scores. 😵‍💫

I think you mean Soderbergh, but yeah, Fincher is not what he used to be, there are the times of Se7en and Fight club, it was decent movie, but nothing ground breaking. Though the monologue reminded me a bit Jack from Fight Club.

He might be that way too, but I've watched a number of behind the scenes breakdowns of Fincher's films and he is very Kubrick-esque in the number of takes he makes his actors do as well as Hitchcockian in how he controls almost every aspect of his films, especially when it comes to color (hates the color pink or pink skin tones so will color/tint his films green to irradicate pink).

He also prefers CGI blood because he can control exactly how it looks and doesn't have to reset after each take like you would with practical effects. Almost all the blood in The Killer looks like CGI, as well as the various muzzle flashes or fire effects (the Molotov that destroys the Brute's house looked especially CGI). There were also several background elements that felt CGI-y (planes landing at the airport stood out). It got to where too much of the film looked a little too "clean". This especially stood out in the scooter escape after Fassbender's character fumbles his target in the first act.

Agree! I had read it is slow before watching it but slow doesn’t have to mean boring. The problem is I don’t care about any of the characters or what’s happens at all.
