Discuss Platoon

This seems to be the most realistic war movie ever, no other movie I've found has captured the mud and blood of being the infantry, digging foxholes, racism, fraggings, drugs, rape, language etc..

Perhaps Stalingrad 93', Beach red, Thin Red Line, Long Days dying, Winter war, Attack, A Rumor Of war, Siege At Firebase Gloria, Hamburger Hill, Come And See, Bridge At Remagen, Men Behind The Sun, and 84 Charlie Mopic would be secondary candidates.. Am I missing any?

Platoon is definitely one of the most impressive (anti-)war films I've seen.

Adding to your list:

Samuel Fuller's The Steel Helmet comes to my mind, probably the first film in that vain being released 1951.

There's also Werner Herzog's Rescue Dawn, though it's more about one POW's incredible fate then the crimes of war.

Full Metal Jacket training camp was pretty realistic at least in past, not sure how PC must be instructors nowadays.

Thanks Will (not sure how to reply to you alone, the reply is frozen at the bottom) I'll check out the Steel Helmet, and of course how could I forget Rescue Dawn, Dengler also has to great books, Hero Found, and Escape from Laos, plus the documentary Little Dieter Needs To Fly.

Thanks, Markoff, Ya FMJ the boot camp scenes were good, but the rest was hokey, it was shot in England in a 5-6 story warehouse district trying to replicate 2 story lush tropical Hue. Ermey was so disappointed in Kubrick he made his own Nam flick: Siege of Firebase Gloria

The Normandy Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan is up there with most realistic war scenes. I read that vets that were at that battle started having PTSD after watching it in the theaters 50 years later

that certinly sound more like some viral promo campaign than reality...

They can no longer strike you but everything else is spot on.
