No início dos anos 60 o diretor soviético Mikhail Kalatozov, juntamente com uma equipe de 200 pessoas, rodou em Cuba a superprodução "Soy Cuba". A intenção original era que o filme fosse uma poderosa arma de divulgação sobre a revolução cubana, mas ele terminou sendo ignorado após sua estréia em Havana e em Moscou.
