It's interesting to know that Rutger Hauer might have never found fame, if he hadn't gotten the role of Floris.
"Floris (1969)", directed by Paul Verhoeven was his breakthrough.
Verhoeven initially wanted Carol van Herwijnen for the role of Floris.
Rutger Hauer was still a young and inexperienced actor back then.
But at the last moment, van Herwijnen had to withdraw, and the producer Max Appelboom suggested Rutger Hauer for the role. Verhoeven agreed and also helped (coached) Hauer with the acting during the filming of "Floris (1969)".
Rutger was later asked and recommended by Verhoeven for other roles. And the rest is history.
