there are many clues that point to the possibility of deckard being a replicant, but one specific line that Gaff (the guy making all the figurines out of everyday objects) says at the end after roy dies, "you've done a mans job sir". I found it to be one of the more bigger clues to proving that he is a replicant. why would he say this to him and in that way? I don't see it has him just stating the obvious either. I may be looking too into the line, but the unicorn also at the end helps solidify this. any thought?
it's just an expression.
It is an expression, but it's not just an expression in this case, at least not when originally filmed. If you look on youtube there is a video of all the deleted scenes. In that he continues speaking, he said "you've done a man's job sir, but are sure you are a man? It's hard to tell who's who around here"
So it would seem the line has some more meaning behind it, at least as it was originally written and filmed. That doesn't mean that it's intended to have any more meaning than that in the final edit, but it implies that it might.
I think the absolute proof that Deckard is a replicant himself is in a very early scene where Rachel comes to his home with the sense that the test actually showed her to be a replicant. Deckard tells her about very specific memories that only she could know of if they were real. The question in her mind is of course why he can know about those memories unless they are exactly what he says to her : Implants. It doesn't matter that he says afterwards that is it was a bad joke. She understands at that point that her memories and that the cherished photo of her mom with her as a child is fake.
But, if one thinks further. How can Deckard really know about those specific memories? Are they very common memories that they implant in many replicants? Did Tyrrell tell about Rachel's specific memories just to him so that he would know about them?
No, the most likely reason why Deckard know about those memories is because they are his own. He has the very same memories as her in his head.
That's why he knows, and that's why he asks her about them.
There is simply no other likely explanation!
Either Ridley lied to Harrison Ford at that time or he wasn't really sure how to set the story straight in the future. But sure, Ridley had really considered and strongly leaned on the thought that Deckard was a replicant, and also a very advanced one as the Tyrrell Corp. allowed him to persue as a Blade Runner. He was probably the Nexus 7 model brought into existence to fight the problems with the earlier models and at the same time fix the old "glitches" . But remember also, Deckard doesn't regard himself as simple "replicant", he vision himself as perfected in the form of human, albeit somewhat being a degenerate and depressed being.
I am just sorry to say that the late sequel didn't really bring the same mysteries and great feeling, although it was a very good attempt.
The cinematography of Blade Runner is as dark as it is perfect. There is really nothing that compares even today.
It brings all those questions of existence, God complex and intelligence to their utter edge in the most cruel and sharp way as ever can be.
The last scene of the movie "time to die" is the absolutely most perfect movie scene I have ever experienced in a movie and I will carry it with me to the day I pass away. I am a real die hard Blade Runner fan. There is no better SF movie ever.
If he is a Replicant, the next question would be does he also have an expirating date.
And if not, then why not?
And how long has he been alive?
Because with an expirating date his relationship with Rachel is doomed.
@ I always thought he was Human .. Leaving the unicorn was just a way to promote talk and debate which is always good for a film.
It's obvious he 's not a replicant .. He had limited strength ..too weak ..Roy could have killed him easily ..
Every time I see that last scene when he dies I cry
It's been years since I watched this brilliant film ... Need to see if I can get it from the library.
