Discuss Gone with the Wind

Watching GWTW again the last few years, I realized that it was Mammy who not only objected to Bonnie riding a pony but also the unladylike way she rode it. Because of that complaint, Rhett taught her to ride side-saddle. If she had been on the pony the other way, would she have not fallen off and broken her neck? I am surprised Rhett wasn't angry at her for making the suggestion or that Mammy didn't blame herself.

This scene gives me chills every time I watch it. So sad!!

I can't believe any female could/would ride a horse or pony that way. It seems so uncomfortable and dangerous.

Rhett didn't have to listen to Mammy's opinion, but he did so because he respected her and he wanted to raise Bonnie to be a "proper lady." Ladies rode sidesaddle. Bonnie would have had to learn the "acceptable" way to ride eventually to be a member of polite society. Rhett should have waited until she was older to teach her sidesaddle or else not start her on jumping right away.

No, Rhett was! Scarlett told him to make her get off, but that stupid man just allowed to go on. And we're meant to feel sorry for him, after his abuse throughout the film??
