The reason I ask is because it seems like the main character is the same one from the original. I remember being confused about this when I was a kid.

It's a sequel.

So Ash said, "What the hey. I know the last time we were out here demons were summoned and we all ended up killing each other but I really want to get laid so this is a good spot for this so..." LOL Like WTF? Who in their right mind would go back to that place?

Y’know I wondered the same thing myself.
It is a sequel though. The next Ash film, Army of Darkness, completed the trilogy.

I loved Army of Darkness. It went all out on the camp while Evil Dead 2 was like a camp stepping stone where it was still horror with elements of camp.

I'm not really convinced its a sequel is the sense of the story. Its a sequel in the sense that it is the second in the series but I just watched all the films and in part 2 Ash is giving the impression that the events of the first film did not occur. He finds a tape recorder and acts like it is the first time he encounters what is being played on it. I get the feeling that Raimi decided to retell the story since the first film was practically a student film. Which is fine by me. Part 2 is my favorite because it is a mix of campy slapstick comedy and horror. The third film is balls out slapstick comedy, which is fine. I still liked it. The first film is mostly horror so the 2nd film is a happy medium and works fine for me.

That was a hard scene in Evil Dead. The only thing I can think of in life that might be harder would be trying to get a Taurus to change their opinion on something.

Of the original trilogy, Evil Dead II was my favorite. It struck the perfect blend of horror and comedy.

More so. Army of Darkness crossed into silly territory (e.g., the windmill scene).

Oh I know. I had somehow remembered it being a bit more graphic than what it was or perhaps the film I recently saw was edited. Shit was hard core though.

Army of Darkness was a complete withdrawal from the horror element and was completely action/slapstick comedy.

Agreed. Army of Darkness was slapstick. That doesn't mean that I don't appreciate it: I do, much in the way that I used to like watching Elvira's Movie Macabre.

Oh, I absolutely love it. But it is night and day when you compare it with the original Evil Dead film.

The beginning of the movie is just supposed to be a recap of the first film. They didn't have the rights to their own film so they had to reshoot it and to save money/time, they only included Ash & Linda instead of the other friends that went along with them. Here's a good quick video from Bruce Campbell explaining it.
