Seznámíme se s životem 300 vědců, kteří pracují na palubě německého ledoborce Polarstern; loď obklopená celý rok křehkými ledovými krami jim slouží jednak za přechodný domov, jednak za výzkumnou základnu. Můžeme sledovat nebezpečí, dramatické situace a výzvy, s nimiž se vědecký tým pracující v jedné z nejnehostinnějších částí naší planety musí potýkat, přičemž statečně čelí polární zimě, aby odhalili tajemství uzavřená v ledu. Podstatou jejich práce je snaha objevit mechanismus, kterým tento dynamický a záhadný kout světa reguluje teplotu a podnebí celé naší planety.

It's the largest Arctic expedition of all time. In September 2019 the German icebreaker "Polarstern" is on its way to the North Pole. The best scientists of their generation are on board. Their job are to collect data about the ocean, ice, atmosphere and life. The mission is to understand climate change, because the changes in the Arctic have an impact far beyond the region. The documentary provides spectacular close-ups of the MOSAiC expedition under the direction of the Alfred Wegener Institute together with the Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and shows the world of the Arctic during the polar night, from which hardly any data and images existed until now. A scientific, logistical and also human adventure of a community of researchers and crew members who let themselves be frozen with the ship for a year in the ice desert near the North Pole in order to use the natural drift of the ice, captured for the audience in impressive images.

Es ist die größte Arktisexpedition aller Zeiten. Im September 2019 ist der deutsche Eisbrecher "Polarstern" auf dem Weg zum Nordpol. Die besten Wissenschaftler ihrer Generation sind an Bord. Ihre Aufgabe ist es, Daten über den Ozean, das Eis, die Atmosphäre und das Leben zu sammeln. Die Mission ist es, den Klimawandel zu verstehen, denn die Veränderungen in der Arktis haben Auswirkungen weit über die Region hinaus. Der Dokumentarfilm bietet spektakuläre Nahaufnahmen der MOSAiC-Expedition und zeigt die Welt der Arktis während der Polarnacht, aus der es bis jetzt kaum Daten und Aufnahmen gibt. Ein wissenschaftliches, logistisches und auch menschliches Abenteuer einer Gemeinschaft aus Forschenden und Crewmitgliedern, die sich mit dem Schiff für ein Jahr in der Eiswüste nahe des Nordpols einfrieren ließen, um die natürliche Drift des Eises zu nutzen, für den Zuschauer eingefangen mit beeindruckenden Bildern.

Jadrom ich práce je snaha odhaliť mechanizmus, ktorým tento dynamický a záhadný kút sveta reguluje teplotu a klímu celej našej planéty.
