The test launch for the first inter-planetary research station goes wrong when the satellite station is inadvertently set up instead of returning to earth. Two people attached to the secret project are missing, presumed murdered, and all suspicions fall on the cuckold husband, the scientist responsible for the lack of fuel aboard the rocket. The theory is he murdered his wife and her lover, depositing the bodies on the errant rocket. Desperate to prove his innocence he volunteers for the next mission to link up with the satellite and clear his name.

In una stazione segreta britannica lo scienziato Steve Mitchell collabora nella realizzazione di un razzo che, progettato per raggiungere la quota di 1000 miglia, dovrebbe diventare il primo satellite artificiale della storia. Viene lanciato in orbita un modello sperimentale ma, a causa di un guasto, non raggiunge la quota prevista fermandosi ad un'altezza di 633 miglia nell'esosfera. Si scopre inoltre che la moglie di Steve, Vanessa, e il dottor Crenshaw, uno degli scienziati, sono scomparsi.

El científico de cohetes americano Stephen Mitchell (Howard Duff) trabaja para conseguir su objetivo de enviar el primer satélite artificial al espacio. Mientras tanto, Vanessa Mitchell (Cecile Chevreau), su esposa, está manteniendo una aventura con el científico Crenshaw (Andrew Osborn). Poco después de que Mitchell descubra esa relación, el satélite es lanzado antes de lo previsto y a su vez, su esposa y el amante desaparecen. Mitchell es acusado de asesinato y de haber dejado los cadáveres en el satélite. Para probar su inocencia, se ofrece voluntario para ir en busca del satélite.
