Discuss V for Vendetta

I like the story and the message but some of it I didn't like. I think setting it in an alternative reality was stupid. It looked goofy and like a sci fi b movie and it completely detracts from the point of the story. This is very realistic and likely to happen in real life, but making it look like sci fi ruins the intensity of that. The screaming conservative overlord was also far too comic book. I would have loved this film if it was the same story but set in the real world. Also they seemed to struggle to mix in the American politics with a British story. Some parts didn't work. It should have been American and set in America, or British and set in the Britain. Mixing the two just kind of muddied it up. Also in some ways it just feels like a 1984 spin off yet it has so much more to offer I think it deserved to feel more unique, but it failed at doing that in the movie at least.

Not bad. I love the story, but it feels wasted in this film.

It takes a historical British event (Guy Fawkes Day) and presents a Catholic extremist in an era where the Roman Catholic church was in charge and presents this extremist as some anarchist fighting a Totalitarian LOL.
But if you saw this after 2021 and you're non-British, you wouldn't notice as you'll project the draconian State rules of the Covid19 pandemic on the Government in this movie
