Anyone get the impression that the crush went both ways right from the start? I do, it's just that Lily is sweet anfd friendly, whereas Dylan is somewhat shy, quite sullen, and slightly rude (don't get me wrong, I love Dylan- it's like TV tropes says, the two of them are like Jess and Leslie from Bridge to Terabithia, one of my favourite films)
