Loved this movie. It's surprisingly realistic (as far as scifi flicks from the early 60s go) in the way it dedicates almost half the movie to the subject of basic survival, air, water, food, fire. Got a little wacky once the aliens showed up, but I guess that's where they decided to run with the original Robinson Crusoe book, which I thought adapted nicely to scifi.
I wonder if the slow, 'realistic' approach here is what inspired Kubrick 5 years later. I wish movies had continued down this vein with the likes of 2001, Solaris, Planet of the Apes. Imagine what scifi would look like today with the knowledge we've acquired since then.
