I found it curious that Daniel really seemed to despise Eli as he was a charlatan preacher who was milking these poor folks of their nickels but at the same time Daniel was ripping them off as well! I loved that part at the end where he coaxes Eli to state "I am a false prophet and god is a superstition". Its funny that here we are, 100 years after the time when the events in the film took place and these are still some of the biggest scams going.

Oil will run out one day, and with the sole exception of snake oil, no longer make for much of a scam. Organized religion, by contrast, is the grift that keeps on grifting

Yeah but its not just oil, it's real estate. So that means people will never stop fighting for it and hustling off the buying and selling of it.

I think in a way, Daniel was the bigger scumbag between the two although I despise religion especially when it is being used to grift and Eli is just what a modern day Joel Osteen is. But Daniel was literally taking these people for millions! I'm talking early 1900 millions which translates to a fuck load in modern day currency when you adjust for inflation. So Eli gives these fools hope on an afterlife and takes them for a few nickels compared to the wallop Daniel did to them. Plus Daniel is a murderous bastard so if you take that into account, Daniel is hands down the greater scumbag.

To Daniel's credit, the dude he iced was at least annoying AF. He displayed standards, by bashing Eli's skull in, rather than that of the street vendor who was barely making enough to support himself and his family

Oh, I'm with ya. Trust me, I have first hand witnessed people getting duped by religion to give up 10% of their pay. Its called "tithing" (what a friggin joke) . I think the fact that Daniel on the surfaced is not nearly as annoying as Eli makes him all the more dangerous. Most people with triple digit I.Q.s can see Eli coming a mile away but Daniel's offer can be quite enticing for a dirt poor farmer scraping a living.

That scene of Daniel caving Eli's head in is really a symbolic depiction of PT Anderson's own frustrations. Namely, the fact that he never again had a naked Heather Graham on set after Boogie Nights

Was Heather Graham naked in that film? Time to watch it again! 😁

Nothing except roller skates in one of the most memorable scenes in movie history, Naz. Dunno how you could have forgotten.....

I know! Especially since I really liked that film. I just saw the scene. πŸ˜‹ BTW you totally remind of Mr. Skin. Fast forwarding to the good parts . He used to come on Stern all the time.

MRS and the commentary that accompanied all of the scenes included on his website were/still are reflected of a more chill and less activist time than the one in which we live today. Word has it that even Howard Stern has gone Woke, thus I'm not sure if he's still invited on the show. Incidentally though, MRS did produce the aptly titled documentary Skin fairly recently. HG's scene from Boogie Nights is included in here also

I haven't listen to Stern in years but I have heard that he has soften up quite a bit. Doesn't use the term "Gary the retard" as an example. I doubt he still has women on there riding the sybian. Still remember Carmen Electra riding it, man that was awesome. But yeah, I used to love Mr. Skin. Dude was funny as hell. I specifically remember his witty comments with that mid west accent and Duran Duran's Girls On Film playing the the background, quite appropriately. The guy had it down to the minutes and seconds in the film when a starlet would be in the buff. The man is a national treasure.

He was no less hilarious in print. Just a few examples:

"Breast of all, she showed off her melons, plus a glimpse of her furry koala" In reference to Melissa George's nude scene in Dark City

In reference to Sarah Shahi's many steamy scenes: "Oddly enough, it was primetime television that gave us our first look at Sarah’s pubic landing strip. On episode 46 of the CBS drama series Person of Interest, double S’s snatch became a focal point of interest when her dressed hiked up just enough during an action sequence, proving to us that she a woman that doesn’t have a need to wear panties."

On Amanda Seyfried: "She plays The Girl in Anon (2018) and proves that her body is timeless. We get to see her breasts and her bare, beautiful butt that just won't quit. Nothing anonymous about that ass. We can recognize Amanda's buns any place! "

Ha ha ha! Yes! Exactly! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ He comes up with some funny lines.

On the plus side, we've got folks like Adrienne Iapulacci who are refusing to water themselves down for The Twitter Mobs. This could be the start of glorious insurgency against the censorious Woke

You are correct. Anyone smart enough to be able to distinguish themselves amongst the crowd will pave themselves a road to success. Howard found success because he didn't GAF what anyone thought. In fact, the more outrageous, the better. This is the winning formula and anyone willing to go against the grain will find success.

Daniel yeah sure ... used them ... but did give something in return.

While Eli ... now he .... just used them for Money .... giving Nothing in return... Just Deceiving the poor .... promising them salvation.....

Eli is the bigger Con Artist here ..... a schmuck ... who deserves to be beaten to a pulp.

Religion .... is a powerful tool to deceive .... if used the right way. Just like politics.

@ 1h:06m Time frame .....

We can clearly see.. the look on Eli's face...

He now knows that the Oil will bring a lot of money to Daniel making him really well off .... while he still struggles with his petty greed .... and prayer service in the Chapel.
