Can't bring myself to watch this... I'll usually watch a political movie if the director is good, or if it is an interesting era or politician... I liked Oliver Stone's JFK, the recent Jackie movie, All The President's Men, Frost/Nixon, etc...

I just can't drum up the interest to watch this... Am I missing out? Should I bother?

I thought it was good. If you liked Amistad, you'd like this.

I thought it was great. One of Spielberg's best recent movies. Surprisingly unsentimental for the most part, as far as Spielberg goes.

Yes, I liked it. It's very interesting.

Thanks... I guess I'll add it to the watchlist...

This film captures the texture of that era.

I admired it more than I enjoyed it.

Definitely recommend giving it a chance just for DDL's performance alone.

Good supporting cast as well, Spader always delivers.

Spader was excellent in this. It was, I think, the first thing I had seen him in in quite some years and he really made his smallish role memorable.

This is my favourite of Day-Lewis' three Oscar-winning performances. I enjoyed it very much.

I'm not an American history buff but could appreciate DDL's character acting and the middle section as an ode to the power of compromise and moderation exemplified by Tommy Lee Jones' character. In this era of populist politicians on the right an left sticking stubbornly to their 'principles' it was nice subplot. Any old fool can run their mouth and stamp their feet (and maybe I'm one of them) but it is the guys and gals that are willing to compromise, to go for second best when the best isn't an option, that show real mental fortitude and change the world for the better.

On a lighter note, I didn't realise Spader was in this film until just now. Anyhoo, well worth a watch, but be warned it in no way panders towards non-Americans (which is fair enough).
