Debate Four Weddings and a Funeral

This film is a very entertaining huge hit of the '90s. Surprising that no one on the TMDb boards has commented anything about it, prior to now.

Couple #2 - Bernard and Lydia - and their wedding are especially perfectly cast, acted, and hilarious. The actress' (Sophie Thompson's) and actor's (David Haig's) facial expressions and performances always, throughout the movie, are spot-on and hilarious. And who can forget Bernard and Lydia's (with their full names in tow) vows as conducted in back-and-forth fashion with Rowan Atkinson as the bumbling new clergyman doing his first wedding? joy That scene is classic!

Hugh Grant certainly is ideally cast as Charles in this movie; I don't think anyone else could have personified the character more effectively and relatably.

It's been years since I've seen that movie and I know I thoroughly enjoyed it..Except for Andie McDowell, I just don't think she was right for the part but that's just my opinion. There was something just off about her. Of course Hugh Grant was terrific.

Andie MacDowell certainly looks stunning in the movie, and has a charismatic delightfulness to her, particularly when she laughs or smiles, though her performance and persona as the Carrie character are otherwise strictly functional. Carrie nonchalantly counting, aloud, the 32 people she slept with throughout the years would have left me feeling like just another number to her, and very turned off, if I were Charles.

Two of my favourite (besides Charles, Lydia, Bernard, and vicar #2) other characters are Charles' platonic roommate Scarlett (portrayed by Charlotte Coleman [who, sadly, died at age 33 in 2001]) and, as the old friend secretly long in love with Charles, Fiona 'Fi' (Kristin Scott Thomas). Those two characters, and the actresses portraying them, perfectly hit the mark.

I rewatched this movie last night for the first time in probably 3 or 4 years. This is a film that holds up well to rewatchings, without ever seeming boring or dated, and that continues to easily entertain.
