Über James Bond 007 - Der Hauch des Todes diskutieren

One of the best things about TLD is the terrific score by the late maestro John Barry. I think that it just contributed so much to the film. It was a fitting send off for his part in the Bond movies.

I forgot to mention that the two songs that The Pretenders contributed to the soundtrack, "Where Has Everybody Gone?" and "If There Was A Man" were very good.

@mechajutaro wink I always liked it. It didn't chart in the US, but for some nutty reason it reached number 1 in Norway :-).

BTW, what's your opinion of David Arnold, Eric Serra, and Howard Newman? Of course they're nowhere near John Barry, but I like them. What about you?

@mechajutaro wink It's nice to talk to another Eric Serra fan! I remember when GoldenEye came out that a lot of Bond fans didn't like the soundtrack. I think that's because it was different from the usual Bond soundtrack. And as for The Fifth Element, I think that's it one of my favorite soundtracks ever. I especially liked the song that the Diva Plavalaguna sang, especially when it switched from Opera to Rock. I've been looking for the soundtrack, but the cheapest price for it is $50.00 on Amazon! BTW, did you know that Serra didn't do the music for Valerian? I thought that was strange.

When it comes to David Arnold, I do think he did a good job on the Bond soundtracks. He also won a Grammy for the score for Independence Day, and he and the late Chris Cornell got a Grammy nomination for You Know My Name. I was bummed out that Howard Newman was nominated for an Oscar for Skyfall. However, I think he should of won it this year for Passengers.

I'm a fan of John Barry. My favorites of his was Dances With Wolves and The Legend of the Lone Ranger. I've been searching high-ho and low for The Lone Ranger soundtrack on vinyl. It's damn rare.

@Dark_Sithlord blush I've always thought that John Barry was a genius. In fact, he has a cameo in the last scene of TLD (he's the orchestra conductor at the solo performance by Kara). As for the soundtrack for the Lone Ranger, have you tried Amazon? Sometimes they have the soundtracks of movies that you can't get anywhere else. The only problem with that is the price is WAY too expensive (for instance, I've been trying to get the soundtrack for The Fifth Element. Amazon is the only retailer that carries it, but the price is $50.00)

@mechajutaro : I just looked it up on IMDb, and Alexandre Dusplat did the music for Valerian. I also looked up Eric Serra on IMDb, and it said that Eric stopped doing soundtracks for Luc Busson movies since 2000.

Hi, Maria Kelly. I've seen The Lone Ranger LP soundtrack pop up on ebay every now and again, but some of the bids are pretty astronomical. I check thrift stores and antique shops, but no luck. Maybe someday.

@mechajutaro : I must have missed that part of Eric's IMDb profile. I haven't seen Valerian yet, I'll probably go this weekend. However, I discovered an odd coincidence. Rihanna was in the movie Battleship (which bombed), sang a song on the Star Trek Beyond soundtrack (which sort of bombed), and has a role in Valerian (which is bombing). Spooky, isn't it?

@mechajutaro wink She did a video for the song in STB. Actually the video was well done. And as for people standing and watching her burn, it may be because they're are hoping that she'll eventually realize that she should stick to her day job (singing).

@mechajutaro wink Do you really think so? My choice is Rumer. I love the song she sang during the end credits of Johnny English.

@mechajutaro spy I just re-read my last post to you about my candidate to sing the next Bond movie song, Rumer. The song she sang during the end titles, I Believe In You (which she helped write) is a gorgeous and lush song that really reminded me of John Barry, and she sounds like the late, great Karen Carpenter.
