I mean, besides marrying a guy who became president?

Before you ask that question, you might ask yourself: What did Barack really accomplish, in lieu of what Trump did after succeeding him? Trump reversed so many of his presidential actions... it feels like maybe the most lasting accomplishment of Obama is still being black and becoming president.

Chris Rock had this joke about how most black women, upon becoming first lady, would be like, "We're president." He was making commentary about how some black women don't like to be sidelined, no matter what. Michelle took some shit for her role in things, but she still had a huge hand in proving that a black family could fit the bill of first family just fine.

Questions like this make me miss the IMDb politics board.

The response would have been riotous!

People will vote for her when she runs for office (potentially in a few months)... It's brand value and she ticks all of the boxes...

I'm pretty well aware of who Barack was before being crafted into the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ by the news media, and after he left the White House. Not sure what that has to do with Michelle, however. Barack did president things as most presidents do, except that he also did a lot of less than honorable things that lefties seem to either overlook or are ignorant of.

Again, is that even an accomplishment? Does it warrant the accolades she gets? She's basically Oprah without the TV show as far as I can tell. Says nice things to audiences, sure, but she seems to spend a lot of time talking about how awful white people are.

Yep, black, a woman, and popular. What else matters?

Well! Excuse me, mongoloid....

Could say the same thing about most first ladies. Attention to her comes with the territory. They married someone and that someone became president. Eventually they get reduced to a concept. She might be acting the same way if she married a stockbroker. Except no one would care. Her name sells the show. Face it people you liked her better when she was Claire Huxtable.

IMO, Michelle, Barack and the girls accomplished something. They were a scandal-free, functional first family for eight years... last year, it seemed like every other week there was more news about Trump and his porn star connection, him cheating on Melania, etc. She has also written a best-selling book that sold like hotcakes. If you're measuring her success by monetary standards, I'm sure there are pop music stars out there who outrank her in that department -- but so what?

Ahhh the old "scandal free" chestnut. It never gets old. However...

Under Obama, at Obama's behest, Muammar Gaddafi was murdered without a congressional declaration of war thereby violating the War Powers Resolution. Hillary Clinton can be seen joking and laughing about it on "tape" prior to a tv interview. Even though Saint Obama claimed that particular murder as some kind of triumph, helping the Libyan people to break free from a tyrant (where have we heard that before?), it's well known and documented that Libya devolved into the human trafficking capitol of the world as a result with human beings regularly bought and sold in open air markets still to this day not to mention ISIS being handed an opportunity to gain a foothold in the Middle East.

The Obama administration spied on, arrested, and prosecuted more reporters than all other presidents combined. He was able to do so using the Espionage Act. This might explain why his two terms were so "scandal free." Journalists were too busy being arrested to report on the scandals.

A historic 77% of Freedom of Information Act requests were denied by his administration (more than any other President).

Obama spent almost a trillion dollars for “stimulus” spending, created virtually zero private-sector jobs.

Operation Fast and Furious, the Obama administration’s program to use American gun dealers and straw purchasers to arm Mexican drug lords, resulting in a huge body count, including Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jamie Zapata, plus hundreds of Mexican citizens. AG Eric Holder escaped perjury charges by claiming he didn’t know what his own subordinates were doing.

The complete clusterf.uck of the ACA is just too voluminous to get into here. Needless to say, everyone I know saw huge increases in their premiums.

For some reason, Obama decided to return Iran's $400 Million, held by the US since the 1970's and subsequently $1.3 Billion more in interest, all in cash. This is the same Iran who routinely sends America well wishes in the form of "death to America" and controls multiple proxy terrorist organizations responsible for killing and injuring hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children. In exchange for this sudden infusion of untraceable cash, Iran released 4 American hostages.

Selective targeting of conservative groups by a politicized Internal Revenue Service.

Benghazi.

Bowe Bergdahl goes AWOL in Afghanistan. His fellow troops die trying to find him. Obama trades five Taliban detainees for that pos.

Otto Warmbier. Obama didn't have the balls to talk face to face with Kim on the Warmbiers behalf, instead advised them "to take a low profile." Otto was finally returned thanks to Trump, but with severe brain damage. He died soon after coming home.

Please, no one turn this into a partisan Politics thread. The topic here is supposed to be discussion of Michele Obama's accomplishments.

Implying what has she done worthy of a documentary made of her. MO doesn't have to have accomplished anything. She was a first lady. She got a book deal. She did promotional tour for that book. Someone arrange to follow her around with a camera to document that book tour and also suppliment that with other material. Netflix picked that up for broadcast. Some people like her and want to watch. People who don't, well they don't.

I don't get the concept of first ladies... it's like wanting to be monarchy, but without the lifelong duty, expectation and restrictions that come with it...

Michelle Obama hasn't accomplished anything in terms of government because she was never part of one... She's just someone who had social influence over her husband who was president for 8 years... With actual public office, comes duty and accountability. Something that a "first lady" does not face, as she is merely a celeb (effectively)...

I still think that the Obama's continue to have political ambitions... Barrack has been very vocal about politics and the administration during the Trump presidency as well as within the democratic party... Much more active then other presidents after their terms ended... I think this paves the way for Michelle running for presidency... It seems like an outlier, but I think it is not that far off...

Funny how that happens, huh?

Sure anyone can make a doc about anyone. I ask the question in part because the level of accolades heaped upon her has been off the charts and warranted by nothing.

The old chestnut is your right wing talking points.

"Talking points?" You mean history? Funny how Obama's transgressions are "talking points" but Trump's transgressions are crimes. I think if our current POTUS was guilty of any of these particular "talking points," he'd have been impeached 10 times by now.

Graduated from college, delivered speeches and someone on wikipedia says she's a "fashion icon." Impressive.
