Its been a while since I've watched this one but I remember this being among the more 'serious' Bond films that didn't rely so much on gadgets.

My favorite Roger Moore Bond film would be The Spy Who Loved Me, followed by Octopussy. However, to be honest his best performance was in The Man With The Golden Gun (TSWLM/LALD trailing just behind).

My favorite, too. Even though Kananga's demise at the end was cheesy, everything else about that movie clicked for me.

I think I would agree you there in terms of his actual performances 👍
Although I'd rank Moonraker slightly ahead of TSWLM as his greatest Bond film...

Well, he always did have an inflated opinion of himself.

The Spy Who Loved Me is and always has been my favourite Bond film. It was the first one I watched (probably at about age 7) and for me it has it all - the hottest Bond girl, cool gadgets, humour, a great bad guy, an even better evil henchman with Jaws, a great shoot-out at the end, shark attacks, the Lotus vs. helicopter scene, the Lotus becoming a submarine scene, Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does It Better' theme song... And I've lost count of how many times I paused the scene with Barbara Bach in the shower...!

For Your Eyes Only was a stripped down version of a Bond film after the excess of Moonraker where it went a bit Star Wars and the double take pigeon.

LOL I remember that scene vividly.

I groaned just before I clicked the upvote button.
I wanted to add, too, that I really disliked the heroine in FYEO. While Carole Bouquet was beautiful, as all of the women in these movies are (save Rosa Klebb), she had the deadest eyes I've ever seen. She played every scene so flatly I half-expected to see her eyes roll back as she passed out and slipped to the ground. Some of the action scenes were good, but I never fully invested in the film thanks to Bouquet.

For Your Eyes Only was Roger Moore's best Bond movie, IMHO.
