Annita Malavasi was just 22 when the Germans occupied Italy, their former allies, in 1943. As a partisan in the Italian resistance named “Laila”, she moved throughout the Apennines with and between fighting units, delivering information, transporting weapons, and taking part in battles. She spent over a year in the Apennines, fighting against the German occupation. At the same time, she had to assert herself against the men of the mountain villages. By the end of the war, Laila had risen among the ranks to become one of the few female commanders in the Italian resistance. This film chronicles the story of a lifelong struggle for emancipation that began with the battle for Italy’s liberation from fascism. Laila and her two comrades, Gina “Sonia” Moncigoli and Pierina “Iva” Bonilauri talk about their time in the Resistenza and what it meant to them and many other women.

Als Partisanin „Laila“ überbrachte sie Informationen, transportierte Waffen, bewegte sich mit und zwischen den kämpfenden Einheiten und nahm selbst an Gefechten teil. Über ein Jahr war sie in den Bergen des Apennin und kämpfte gegen die deutschen Besatzer, gleichzeitig musste sie sich gegenüber den Männern in den Bergdörfern behaupten. Gegen Kriegsende gehörte Laila zu den wenigen weiblichen Kommandierenden im italienischen Widerstand. Der Film erzählt die Geschichte einer lebenslangen Emanzipation, die mit dem Befreiungskampf gegen den Faschismus begann. Laila und zwei ihrer Genossinnen, Gina „Sonia“ Moncigoli und Pierina „Iva“ Bonilauri, berichten von ihrer Zeit in der Resistenza und ihrer Bedeutung für sie und viele andere Frauen.

La partigiana “Laila” ha trasmesso informazioni, trasportato armi, si è mossa tra le unità combattenti prendendo personalmente parte alla lotta armata. Per oltre un anno è rimasta sui monti dell’Appennino Reggiano a combattere contro l’occupante tedesco, dovendosi inoltre imporre in quanto donna tra gli uomini delle comunità montane dell’epoca. Sul finire della guerra Laila è stata una delle poche donne comandanti della Resistenza italiana. Il film racconta la storia di un percorso di emancipazione lungo tutta una vita ed iniziato con la lotta di liberazione contro il fascismo. Laila e due sue compagne, Gina “Sonia” Moncigoli e Pierina “Iva” Bonilauri, raccontano della propria esperienza nella Resistenza e di cosa essa abbia significato per loro e per molte altre donne.
