Discusión Warcraft

This was a surprisingly good movie, considering I didn’t have too many expectations for it, I mean video games inspired movies don’t have the best track record, but I quite like Warcraft, and I’m looking forward to the sequels (hopefully) . I recently watched it at the same time as Suicide Squad, Star Wars VII and X-Men Apocalypse and Warcraft was one of the better ones.

What’s your opinion on the movie?

I like it quite a bit but it feels as though it is edited down from a clearer story. It sometimes feels like a bunch of montages and I wish it was more than it is because it looks amazing. Just doesn't feel epic.

Yes it's a good movie and by far the best video game based ever. The story was pretty close to cannon and the cinematography&CGI were a thing of beauty.

I gave it 8/10 and bought the Steelbook Edition because this movie really deserves my support. Duncan Jones did great with what he was given.

I just caught it in passing on Cinemax and at first I chuckled at the sub par CGI thinking it was in-between Top tier and the SciFi channel....but it drew me in and I ended up enjoying it quite a lot. Just like many classics it proves visuals shouldn't rule the roost over characters and story. I enjoyed it being darker in places than I expected and I was quite surprised at some of character's fates but it made a lot more sense at the end as it was left open for a definite LOTR kind of continuation. I hope they make more.

I liked the story, and the CGI Orcs weren't terrible. My main gripe was the humans lacked charisma or seemed less expressive than the CGI cast they played against. Which I think is a problem when half the cast is CGI, the animators are free to emote the f**k out of the characters which makes the live action actors appear less so. Also, as much as I love Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, and Ruth Negga in other roles, they appear miscast in their roles here. What they should have done was make the movie all CGI or ask the actors to play up their roles (ham it up). Maybe hire actors who are well suited to over the top performances or at least accustomed to acting to a green screen.

I played all Warcraft games and read some of the books, this movie was somewhat... satisfying and sympathetic. But it was nowhere near my expectations. It wasn't horrible but it was way down my expectations. This is just my opinion but comparing the movie to the games, especially Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne, the movie suffers from bad acting and poor writing.

Yes there is lore in the movie, but it feels like it's been stuffed in there so hard. Like, it's been two minutes since the beginning of the movie but I've heard maybe 10 references to the game world. I like a throwback, but not this much. Stormwind, Guldan, Lothar, Medivh- dude what is going on? Slow the hell down so I can get a grip right?

Also, the bad acting... I'm not saying at all that every single actor was bad but, the majority was surely bad. In fact I can easily name the good ones and be done with it. Again these are just my opinion, the orc girl was fine, Durotan was fine, Gul'dan was perfect, some less important human characters was kind of good. And that's it. The rest is horrific acting. King? What is that, what kind of king is that? Watch Reign of Chaos intro and see King Terenas portrayed in a cinematic only made in 2002 and see how a human king actually is supposed to be. Lothar? Wtf? He keeps behaving like a spoiled teenage brat, so emotional and ignorant. Gets so sad one moment and he forgets all about it the next.

And Medivh !!! I don't know where to start with this. Basically he was portrayed as a rebellious middle-aged hippy, who can perform some powerful magic. Now come on everyone. Is that Medivh? Is that the Medivh portrayed in the books, or in the Warcraft games? I mean I will admit I kinda liked the new Medivh portrayal in Blizzard's new Hearthstone game, but this... In the movie Medivh character was absolutely unwatchable. I don't think it was entirely the actor's fault though. He was clearly badly written. Medivh is supposed to be cooler. He is the f*cking guardian!

And that kid? The one with all the magics alongside Medivh? What on earth was that. What on earth the f*ck was that character doing in this movie? What was his purpose? I mean I do understand that he has renounced his vows and whatnot so he is not exactly supposed to behave like a fully matured guardian. But... he was clearly just an over-excited kid performing magic and it looked extremely stupid.

Overall, I really liked the CGI orc and the story of orcs, almost entire acting on the orcs part, and anything else related to orcs. On the other side, almost anything about humans (acting-wise) sucked. The portrayal of cities and magic, I liked. But the characters, dialogues and events, sucked.

I don't think the movie producers will ever be reading this, but if through some miracle they are, please do not choose to make such a portrayal of said characters again. It killed the Warcraft lore. I mean the guardian and the humans had nothing to with the Warcraft universe except names and places.

For the sake of morale, I will finish with something that I really really liked in the movie. There are several scenes where we are watching from the perspective of a specific race. In said scenes, if an opposing race is speaking, that character will sound like it's speaking in its own language. It applies to both orcs and humans. For example, Durotan was explaining during the secret meeting that he wanted to eliminate Guldan etc. During this speech, he was speaking in English. But the orc girl was translating what he said in an incomprehensible language (supposedly the human language). And when the king spoke back to him, this time his speech was in English and the translator was speaking ANOTHER incomprehensible different foreign language. I loved this touch. Small stuff like this really helps me keep watching the movie but when everything else sucks, the top points I can give is 6. Please don't make another disney movie. It's not exactly a Disney movie but you get my point. Probably.

I hope they do make a sequel. There are so many other movies that get sequels even though the first movie was a total failure
