Although most of the time you saw the monsters they were indeed just people in monster suits. Svengoolie established that a little bit of stop motion animation (aks Harryhausen-style) was used in one scene.

I really miss stop-motion effects. I know they're super outdated at this point, but I really would't mind seeing more of it in modern movies.

I think the stop motion was used when Kong fights an octopus.

An episode of the NBC’s sitcom, Community, "Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas", used stop motion animation. Season 2; Episode 11, December 9, 2010. https://vimeo.com/47465880

Army of Darkness. Nightmare before Christmas. Coraline. Fantastic Mr. Fox. Those are the most recent films I can think of with significant or all stop motion.

Back to original point. The stop motion animation used in KKVG I guess took time enough to make. I am glad they did not try to put it into the rest of the film.

They didn't use stop motion because it was too expensive!

Time as well. Hey that battle and a half between Kong and Godzilla was filmed in seconds compared to a stop motion battle between them. That woulda took months.
