Damn, I hadn't heard that. He had such a great baritone voice and demeanor and did the role proud.
Sadly, looking at the pictures posted of him a few hours before his death it was clear he was in very poor health. It's remarkable how some people can continue to look relatively healthy well in to their '70's and '80's, while others' bodies fall apart far sooner.

Lost Bill Paxton not too long ago...Makes me sade to think the actors who played some of my favourite characters are passing.
My favourite line of his from Aliens:
Sargeant Apone : It's a rescue mission, you'll love it. There's some juicy colonists' daughters we have to rescue from their virginity.
R.I.P., Mr. Matthews. You'll always be Apone to me.
