Now I know that there are people who believe that all the actors playing Bond play the same character but that doesn't explain how Bond gets old then young every few years. Or how there is the code name theory that all the Bonds are different.

But that doesn't explain why Moore would be at Tracy's grave in FYEO. That is why I believe that some of the Bonds are different and there is a clear structure that each few Bonds follow.

Sean Connery's Bond is the original then he retires after YOLT. Then a new Bond is recruited, Lazenby. Who is briefed on Blofeld but doesn't get recognized by him right away because it's a different guy being 007. This is where the concept of codenames comes into play. So when Bond's wife is killed in the end of the film he emotionally breaks down and is left off on leave while he grieves.

This is when Connery is brought back to be 007 again and this is why he is so pissed in the beginning of DAF because Blofeld caused him to be 007 again, but never mention's because of him murdering his wife, because that's Lazenby's wife not his. So then when the day is saved Connery retires for good, and Lazenbys bond comes back, but now he is Roger Moore this explains how he does age and why Blofeld targets him years later in FYEO because Lazenby and Moore are the same character being the codename of 007.

Then overtime Moore's bond ages and retires after A View To A Kill, then a new bond is hired, Timothy Dalton. So now at the end of Licensed to Kill, Dalton goes AWOL to avenge Felix and his dead wife that is why in the beginning of Goldeneye it takes place 9 years before (making that be in Dalton's time) then Goldeneye picks up after Licensed to Kill where bond is being reevaluated by one of MI6's agents to make sure he is fit for duty again, because sense he disobeyed M in LTK MI6 needs to make sure they can trust him, and the new M (Judy Dench) making Dalton and Pierce Brosnan the same person being 007. Then he reties, making way for the brand new 007, because it is clear that Casino Royal is Daniel Craig's bond's first mission because it is stated in the film that he was just recently promoted to 007 status, and hence why Judy Denche's M wishes it was back in the cold war because she learned she could trust the old Bond (Dalton/Brosnan).

So that is my theory, and if you watch the structure of the films in this order it makes much more sense than there all the same person, or that Craig is a reboot, because of M being the same as the Pierce Brosnan era and even mentioning that time.

Any thoughts on this?

Nah, Bond is the same guy in all the official movies, just like Batman of the Burton/Schumacher films, they just used diff actors who didn’t look alike.

I love reading these theories though, although I suspect most people who want a black James Bond or female James Bond think it’s just a codename too! Which it ain’t LOL

Here is the exact reason why, despite the well-thought theory, it could not work. Daniel Craig and George Lazenby both ruin it. First, in OHMSS, despite the lack of recognition thing, in the beginning, Lazenby looks to retire to chase Blofeld. Why do this if you're new? Second, all of the "artifacts" he pulls out of his desk when contemplating retirement early in the film.

As for Craig, I believe he is called James Bond in the opening scene of Casino Royale, BEFORE he was given the 00 status (needs 2 kills, the man who addresses him is number 2). Also, if 007 is the best they have, as hinted at in other supports for the changing Bond theory, why does Craig, a 00 rookie, automatically get the 007 title, despite immediately screwing up (chase ending in embassy shootout in Casino)? Plus, that flashback in Goldeneye, while again well thought in your theory, would stretch to before Dalton's tenure as Bond. While this could be explained as actor availability, again, he is addressed as 007 and the story continues years later with the same Bond.

Sorry to go all contradictory, but I've never liked or supported the theory myself. It was just not intended and while it would definitely account for some obvious issues with the series (changing actors, updating tech, period-sensitive villains and themes, and the aging issue with the character, not to mention the actors), I always like to think of him as one man.

Bond is the same character, despite the change in age and appearance.
