If you're a fan of Department Q (The Danish crime series), you'll be disappointed to learn the original cast, Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Carl Mørck), Fares Fares (Assad) and Johanne Louise Schmidt (Rose Knudsen) are missing from the latest release, The Marco Effect (2021). Unfortunately, so is the chemistry that made this compulsive viewing for me. If you get the chance to watch this excellent scandi noir drama series these are the ones to catch ... The Keeper of Lost Causes (2013), The Absent One (2014), A Conspiracy of Faith (2016). The Purity of Vengeance, (2018) is the last one in the series with the original cast.

The Danish film company Zentropa only had the rights to produce the first four books of the series. Although the movies were a success, the author and creator Jussi Adler-Olsen wasn't satisfied with the adaptation of his books or the portrayal of his characters by the original cast. So he sold the rights of the rest of the series to Nordisk Film and it was decided to recast everyone. There is also a new producer and screenwriter, so this movie will 'feel' different compared to the previous four movies.
