POSSIBLE SPOILERS I'm not one for dealing with English subtitles, but it's worth it for this Jean Cocteau classic. It's a visually haunting version, and very faithful to the original story. One cannot help feeling sympathy for the Beast, and one can see how Beauty eventually falls in love with him. (Some have said that the Beast is actually more lovable than the Prince he eventually becomes.) And, as befits a fairy tale, there are some mysterious and creepy goings-on in the Castle of the Beast. Superb on all counts.

Hi, bratface. You might also find my commentary on Cocteau's Orphee interesting.

I have not seen Cocteau's version (I'll have to hunt around for it). This is the version of the Orpheus & Eurydice story that I have seen.

That's a good version; but if you get a chance (maybe online?), you really should see Cocteau's amazing version. Some of his special effects were cleverly ahead of their time, and the depiction of the underworld is unmatched in its mysterious spookiness.

Yes, this is my personal favorite telling of the tale in film. Cocteau was really one of a kind. I miss his creativity and storytelling ability.
