Discuss Don't Look Up

I think it is fairly obvious that the film is a parodical allegory to the climate change situation where it is spoofing that we are so fucking stupid that even if the world changing event was just 6 months away that we would foolishly, somehow, not respond accordingly. I like the message of the film but I thought it could have been a little bit shorter and funnier but still entertaining enough to check it out.

I posted this on one of the other threads re the supposed climate change allegory:-

I had read before though re the suggested climate change metaphor but had to take that with a pinch of salt. Although it's pretty funny to consider the movie in that context, given the rest of the world seems to do nothing bar a particularly last minute attempt which you just know will clearly fail. So either you just laugh at that as lampooning countless disaster movies where it's down to America alone to save the day or you scratch your head at the narrative that suggests America alone can stop climate change 🤔.

Yeah but didn't they imply in the film that other nations, after being cut out of the deal to mine the comet, tried to divert the comet and their efforts were sabotaged? That's how I took it anyways.

Yeah, I did mention that they seemed to be doing nothing bar that last minute attempt but that's a good call re sabotage... I don't think I'd picked up on that! The bash company took the foreign competition out?

It appeared after the US cut out China, Russia, and India out of the deal, they planned on launching their own but I gathered that they were not trying to mine it themselves but simply divert it like the original plan. The greedy powers that be just couldn't let that happen. The reason I do not think they were trying to mine it is because the scientific community was behind the cause as you saw Dr. Oglethorpe and Dr. Mindy express their frustration when the word came down that the launch site exploded.
