I had high expectations for this film but was let down. It just tried too hard to be funny and it wasn't. It was predictable and shallow. Had Stanley Kubrick written and directed this film back in the day, it would've been MUCH, much better.
It was horrifying seeing an A-list cast having their talent wasted.

Dr. Strangelove is barely funny at all. It's pretty overrated.

Ha ha. I mostly grew up before PC was a thing. Ok. West isn't that big of a deal to me; early bell hooks was my bread and butter. Some of FD's work has stood the test of time and is still valuable to us. I gladly admit that, however, times change and even classics go out of style. That's why I said what I said about FD.
I doubt I'll ever sit and watch the '16 Ghostbusters. As for Dr. Strangelove, I wanted to like it since it's Stanley Kubrick and all. However, Airplane it isn't. My fave part of Strangelove consists of Sterling Hayden mugging for the camera & going on about "bodily fluids." Then, there's the iconic bombing shot, which is a hoot. Otherwise I consider it just about a bust.

Before I click that, I just want to say I really respect the photography in the Kubrick film that's under discussion... it's great.

Predictable? No! Just exactly which first 20 minutes of the film did you figure out that human leadership were completely selfish, greedy morons?

I didn't need this piece of shit comedy to tell me what I already know.
I've been deeply enraged by the notion that criticizing the film means you're disparaging the message. Which is absolutely false and shows a lack of nuance.
The main point from the above article:
_My personal criticism is that Don’t Look Up just didn’t work really well as a coherent comedy film. It’s overly long, the central joke that the meteor is really climate change is hammered into your head so many times that the unsubtlety is almost distracting. And yet the film isn’t quite screwball enough work on a level like something like Idiocracy does, despite its Oscar winning cast. It’s fine. I don’t regret watching it, but I didn’t love it.
Yet, all of that does not mean I do not think climate change is an urgent issue. I’m about to have a kid. I would very much like that kid to be able to live in a world where Miami and a thousand other coastal cities are not underwater. This is very important to me and reflected in my personal politics and voting habits.
But there is a sharp divide here. As a critic you can’t just give a 5 star review to every movie whose message you agree with. I see progressively political movies all the time that are simply…not good. I’m reminded of Elysium, the Neill Blomkamp sci-fi epic that was a clear allegory for wealth inequality that I very much agree exists. But it was a bad movie! The message doesn’t change that! _

I love this. You can put that comment on almost any film.

Seth Rogen was not in this film. Had he been, I might have enjoyed it better. I got my hopes up because Adam McKay has great skills when it comes to comedy, writing, and he had a pretty good film with Vice, which shows he can also do political commentary. I had high hopes because all signs pointed to this film being good. Well, I learned my lesson, didn't I?
