Raoul La Spada (Mario Carotenuto) en zijn handlanger José (José Guardiola) komen uit de gevangenis in Madrid. Zij besluiten om nog één grote kraak te zetten, namelijk de diefstal en verkoop van een duur schilderij. Zij roepen de hulp in van de Italiaanse kunstschilder Scorceletti (Totò) om voor een replica van het kunstwerk te zorgen.

When the swindler La Spada and his accomplice José come out of jail in Madrid, they decide to pull a really great swindle: nothing less than to discover and sell a third picture of the famous Goya's Maya. They engage the renowed Scorcelletti who can imitate any picture and who lives in Rome. Afterwards, with the help of the beautiful Eva, they convince the celebrated art critic Francisco Montiel of the existance of a third Maya and let him find the picture. When the swindlers are on the point of selling the faked maya to an American millionaire, Scorcelli comes back from Rome to sell one of his six other maya pictures.

Sorti de prison, un marquis décide de tenter une nouvelle escroquerie avec la complicité de sa femme et demande à un copiste très doué de reproduire une œuvre de Goya. Subjugué par la qualité de l'exécution, et amadoué par la femme du marquis, l'expert croit à une nouvelle œuvre.

Римский художник Тото Скорчелетти должен написать копию с картины Гойя, а мошенник Рауль собирается выдать подделку за оригинал и продать полотно некой американке, коллекционирующей произведения искусства… Для пущей правдоподобности Ла Спада, с помощью своей подружки Евы, устраивает дело так, что «неизвестный шедевр» обнаруживает в тайнике дома великого художника, не кто иной, как профессор Франсиско Монтиэль - эксперт по испанской живописи.

Un delincuente apodado el "marqués" acaba de salir de la cárcel y decide volver a las andadas, con ayuda de su bella compinche, que se hará pasar por su esposa. Ahora se trata de estafar y para ello pide a un copista (Totò) que plagie un cuadro de Goya, para convertirlo en la tercera "maja": "La maja con el camisón".
