This was recommended to me and to be honest I was hesitant. It has an average rating and I suspected it was going to glorify organised crime (which many seem to accuse it of). Instead I got an film focussed completely on depicting the chaos of the post-USSR, pre-Putin era Russia (an era where the ruling class took back control of banditry!).
There is not a hint of the stylised depiction of crime in say a US, British, Italian or Korean film. And it has a great little song at the end.
As one character says of their behaviour.... "it's not us, its the place". This film excels in taking us to that place and is a lesson to me to not be a slave to a rating.
8/10
