Really good movie. I was a fan of the original Planet of the Apes with Heston, so I wasn't sure how much I would like a remake. But it took the origin in a fresh direction, one which is totally plausible. CGI was pretty damn good and Serkis continues to amaze with his CGI acting which should be recognized by the Academy because it is totally legit.
I'd have to disagree with anyone who calls it plausible, he wouldn't be able to get a permit to house an ape in the first place, even under 3 years old. Caesar wouldn't be able to keep the apes from killing people on the bridge, either. Not even close.
But lack of credibility aside, I thought it was fun, very much like Congo where you have just enough suspense, and then you the sentimentality towards the end. Apes films-wise, I'd say "conquest of" would be the one to compare it to, with Caesar taking command of his kind.

Yeah, pretty solid and a little unusual for a mainstream film given the required lack of dialogue.
Its the first Apes film I've seen (original or remake) and I'm not sure which one to watch next given the mixed reviews some of the other remakes get.
