Discuss The Midnight Sky

It's 2049 and the world is ending because "we" didn't take care of the Earth.

We have:

  • Black captain
  • Interracial couple
  • Hispanic doctor
  • Black non-overweight girl.

The movie is not bad. It's just not good. Predictable story and 30min too long.

Interstellar is a good movie. Ad Astra is nice even with its flaws. Watch those instead.

Still not diverse enough...no Asian or disabled actor!

In all seriousness, you're right - it's OK but those are much better, more thought-provoking movies.

I despise this movie. Not saying it isn't well made, but I hate it. And why are all modern movies and episodic shows featuring black on white relationships? These rarely ever happen irl.

I find this assumption quite weird; why would there not be an interracial relationship? I don’t see it as more or less relevant than a Black‑only or White‑only or any other colour of skin relationship.

I also don’t quite understand why people in this thread focus so much on diversity and present this as a way to judge the movie in a negative way.

I'm not making an assumption. Look up the statistics. I did, before I made that statement, umkaaayyy. And, I'm old, and know a lot of people, exactly 2 couples of which are in black/white marriages. In real life, it's fairly rare, but "Hollywood" keeps forcing the idea of (mostly) black on white relationships which is what I have an issue with. Maybe I just have a frequency illusion, but I see it EVERYWHERE in movies and episodic shows.

Because it is so obvious that some people ( and yes I am f_cking talking about you MongoLloyd) in this thread do not like people of color , especially black people mixing with whites, starring in movies, etc. Everything he posts is ALWAYS anti black, anti diversity.

No, you just looked out your basement window. It is not rare in real life, and just because you are old and only know 2 couples like that-that is not the reality of the world.

OK. I am then curious about two things (more, actually, but those are the two things on the topic):

  • So that we can talk about this topic based on the same information, which are the statistics you looked at that your comment is based on? A simple URL can help a great deal to believe you are not making an assumption.
  • I am not a native speaker, does “black on white” implies any specific gender on one side or the other?

That's propaganda not diversity.

What purpose would that propaganda serve?

You and anyone else are free to do 20 seconds of research online and see what the statistics are, and yes "black on white" indicates a specific gender composition of an interracial coupling.

"49% of Democrats and those who lean to the Democratic Party believe that interracial marriage is beneficial for the society."

Which specific statistics are you referring to? You said you looked into it so it should not be hard to share a URL instead of letting others guess, or assume you’re only making assumptions.

What purpose does diversity serve, when it's merely an excuse for stick-in-the-mud execs in Hollywood to APPEAR more progressive than they actually are

You’re dodging the question. I’ll be happy to answer yours once you answered mine.

LOL "USA". Weren't the couple English?

Regardless, clearly you have an agenda; in most major Western cities e.g. London and NYC it is very common to see mixed race relationships.

I get that Hollywood wants to pander to diversity and yes, it is annoying but "real life" is really dependent on your experience of "real life".

But ultimately - so what if its "black on white" and why does it even bother you that much?

LOL American production company and American director.
