Such a fabulous car. Sheds interesting light on the character.
Both he and his wife drove Porsche, so brand loyalty/identity is in play here. Engineering excellence and all that.
But, of all models, I did not figure him for the Carrera GT. It's a spectacular car, perhaps my all-time favourite (even beyond its looks, or even its performance, is its distinct, exquisite sound). Yes, it is attention-demanding and speaks to his ego... yet, he seems altogether not titillated by spirited driving.
I have looked at psychological profiling in real life (and have even guessed what kind of car a few people drive based in what I could perceive of their personalities) - I might have put him in a Panamera (Porsche's entrant into the alpha male cabin cruiser - Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS, Audi A8, etc. ) or, a good old Carrera 4...but maybe his vanity was the thing to highlight, which was ultimately his undoing.

I'm not all that into every make and model so I might not know, but I thought it was speaking to his desire for engineering excellence--or rather perfection--and also his desire for control. I noticed how "specifically" the car took off and then came to a stop. It was not like some casual daily driver, but rather a very precise and controlled machine.

Well said. Yep, this car really spoke to who he was. And indeed, ultimately, his strength was his weakness.
