Excellent movie

I just finished watching this. Excellent, compelling movie! The 2-3/4 hrs. passed very quickly.
Munich received five Academy Awards nominations (Best Picture; Best Direction [Steven Spielberg]; Best Adapted Screenplay Writing; Best Editing; and Best Original Score [John Williams]), but didn't win either of the categories. Nonetheless, it's a decidedly first-rate film.
Incidentally, regarding the actual events, I remember watching (as a pre-teen) all the live coverage on ABC back during the '72 Olympics; I definitely recall the engrossing reporting by Jim McKay, Peter Jennings, etc. Coverage of the Munich Olympic Village tragedies and the hostages situation took over t.v. for a long time and was absolutely gripping. A bit over four years later I visited Munich and the Olympic Village and it felt very weird being so near to where all that terrible stuff had gone down.

Eric Bana is a really good actor, and I don't understand why he hasn't had a much more prominent career than has turned out to be the case. He seemed to have definite full-fledged star standing for 2-3 or so years during the period when this movie came out, but then seemed to - for no apparent reason - largely fade from sight, so lost his career momentum, thus (for the most part) his stardom, as a result.

Bana seems to be doing things that he thinks are worthwhile. He probably made a bundle during his A list years and he's not the kind of guy to be chasing moonbeams.
