Discuss The Marvels

Maybe I missed something, but it seems like there is some sort of necessary watching or reading that has to be done before watching this crap fest to really even understand what is going on. The "old" Marvel movies weren't exactly masterpieces, but they were perfectly watchable and often quite decent and passable entertainment you could watch without really watching any of the previous movies. This one, however.....hoo boy.....I haven't been watching the crappy (so I've heard) Marvel TV shows and I have no idea what a rambeau or a miss marvel is or what one does and why exactly are they in the situation they are in the begin with. Why is Captain Marvel flying around in a spaceship doing.....something? Last I remember she was doing the dishes in her own movie and failing in Avengers End game. Come to think of it who really cares, right? These are some of the unfunniest and boring characters to grace the silver screen in recent memory and the plot is so boring I feel like I'd rather read somebody's fanfiction of Dostojevski dating one of the Twilight vampires.

For Ms. Marvel, you must have missed her diary which rushed through the salient points in animated form near the start of the movie.

Monica Rambeau was kinda short-changed. You need to have been paying attention in Captain Marvel to remember who she is and her power up got, IIRC, a one-line explanation in Marvels. TBH, if I hadn't read it somewhere, I wouldn't have remembered seeing her getting powered up and I saw all of Wanda/Vision where it all happened.

Rushed is one word for it.

What did you guys think of the fight scenes? Here I was thinking the fight scenes were truly atrocious in Captain Marvel only for them to be truly upstaged in this movie with the leads lethargically and unenthusiastically throwing haymakers at some other chick who can't act nor fight. My favourite is when some asian singer bro tells Miss Marvel to use her scarf to fight. Now she slaps the faces of his opponents with the scarf and they act like it was a whip made of barbed wire. I've never seen the TV show and hopefully never will and had to actually google if it is some sort of magical fighting scarf, but apparently it is just a normal piece of apparel. Then there's the scene towards the end when one of them magically appears behind the evil bad guy to sucker punch from the back channeling her inner Homer Simpson ("I saw my advantage and I took it....that's what heroes do!"). Thing is right after that all three of the marvels engage the evil bad guy head on in a round of fisticuffs, which obviously begs the question if one of them can just appear behind her at will why are they going about in the dumbest way imaginable. Repeat such stupidity non stop for about an hour and 40 minutes and you got a crappy movie called "The Marvels".

You've obviously never seen any movie featuring Salman Khan as "Tiger" either. Not sure if it's an Indian movie thing or a "Tiger" thing, but his keffiyeh is a deadly weapon as well as an incredible fashion accessory that comes with a wind machine and operator so that it can dramatically billow when he tosses it over his shoulder, as seen near the start of the trailer for his latest film: https://youtu.be/vEjTUDjjU6A?feature=shared&t=29 (29 seconds in).

Spoilers for "Pathaan" below:

You have

been warned.

When he comes to Pathaan's rescue in a surprise cameo, he uses his scarf to take out a bunch of armed goons. Couldn't find a decent quality clip, but you can get the idea from https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZpnfxjEpdMY

I watched this little turd of a movie, but I dont think I was the target audience, and Im not sure what the target is. Over reliance on the cat tentacle joke really grated from the start, then they went all in on it, some sort of boardroom think tank decision for sure. Dont even remember what the main conflict was, something about resources and climate change or some crap. Larson tries to be more likable and fails, shedding her previous tony starkesque bravado for a ditzy cat chasing persona, doesnt work. Her support cast manages to keep her from totally humiliating herself as they chide and chortle at her antics, constantly reminding the audience that cpt marvel is the coolest and that everyone wants to be her.

If the Vellani girl was cast to stop Larson embarrassing herself then they fucked up to put it mildly.

Ms. Marvel was given new upgraded clothes by the alien Prince. It's an alien scarf.

Here is the scene where Kamala asks for a whip scarf.

At 41 seconds:

Kamala: "Oh, you know what... what would actually be really helpful, is if, ehm, my... my scarf was like some kind of a weapon, and so if... , like... like a whip, and so if Carol is using her power, I would have another option."

"A scarf weapon would be cool,"♪
"then with it I could duel."♪

Only because it gives him an excuse to take his top off! stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye
