The story seemed half-baked. Was it a haunting _ or a _poltergeist ? Nothing definitive was ever established.

yes, all's she really did was save the daughter. it is in the sequel that they explain the reason for the disturbances and solve the problem.

I guess she didn't really understand the beast until the sequel. To her it was an entity like any ghost or potergiest and Di dnt realize she would need to lead him into the light herself.

Yeah. I guess Heather was her courage meter and she was given the courage. Makes sense
