Discuss John Wick: Κεφάλαιο 4

I watched it for like 30-40 minutes before I gave up, it looks like straight to video movie with lame completely unrealistic action scenes and cliche dialogues, pretty much unwatchable. I was going into it hoping I will enjoy dumb action flick, but man oh man, they made them in 80s/90s or even later way better, even the movements while fighting seemed like slow motion and not sure what was it about covering yourself against gunfire with hands, are you going to stop bullet with your hands? Completely ridiculous movie, gave it 50%/2.5 and I feel very generous, you are better off watching Rambo or whatever Cage movies from 90s than this trash. Even my wife who likes dumb movies was rolling her eyes at those action scenes.

The Continental can supply Kevlar suits that deflect bullets. They're not using their hands, but their clothing.

(Slightly more believable).

Yeah, I saw it at some of them, but all of them were doing those moves.

You have to have some disbelief to be able to enjoy. Some Jiu-Jitsu moves are nice for a 1on1 combat but some slow rolls in the middle of a shooting against dozen armed enemies was a little too much.

I wouldn’t say it was bad. But I wouldn’t recommend.

You sir, are wrong and your opinion is wrong and you should see yourself out. Thank you. All kidding aside. If you arent a fan of long take action scenes this franchise isnt for you. I do agree that they relied to much on the bulletproof clothing thing. It was cool to see in the last two films but they brought it up a notch with this one. Thats what you saw when they kept bringing up their hands, its was to cover their heads and faces with their suit jackets. But this film did do some cool new stuff. Like how Cane fought with a gun, even if he was blind.

You just really have to suspend disbelief for films like this. Its not for everyone.

Repetitive action scenes with basically the same choreography only in different locations are boring. Personally I liked the second movie more because it had variations, the action was better choreographed and its pace was a bit slower so it was much clearer what is going on. In Chapter 4 there were some nice scenes, I liked the car fighting and the view from the top in the house shootout. But overall the movie felt boring, it was hard for me to keep interest, especially with such nonsensical story.

And I agree, that Kevlar suits gag is completely ridiculous. Kevlar cannot absorb the kinetic energy of the bullet and I don't think it can stop bullets shot from automatic rifles, especially from such short distance. I understand that it was meant to look cool and it is a fantasy device, but I still don't think it justifies complete disregard of the lows of physics. It looked like they shot at each other with Nerf gun pellets. And it seems that arrows and knives were penetrating that Kevlar better than bullets. So that part was completely moronic.

I do like nice action sequences, even if not much realistic, but they keep raising the stakes with each movie and it's ridiculous. It affects the interest and the entertainment, I got really bored really fast. The first movie was not like that at all.

And btw, The Raid 2 is still the best action movie in the last decade, I didn't see anything that comes close to it.

I wasn't impressed by the first "Raid" movie, so didn't bother with the second. However, as long as you don't care about things like historical accuracy and physics, the greatest action movie of the last decade has to be "RRR" and it has the Oscar to prove it *.

*Admittedly the Oscar was for "Best Song".

The Raid 2 is much better both with action and as a movie in general. Gareth Evans is not your average "direct to video" director, he actually knows how to build a scene and has very good sense of cinema as art. Not surprising he is now working on big productions. Highly recommended for action aficionados.

I've seen RRR and it's quite entertaining, it's not bad. However this action is more like a Fast and Furious action, a lot of unrealistic stuff. RRR has a different approach, though, its "bigger than life" characters are result of an intentional presentation of a mythic figures and god like humans that serve bigger than life ideologies and have bigger than life motivations. No, The Raid 2 is all martial arts, hand to hand realistic action. It's very versatile in action scenes and never repeats itself, constantly manages to raise the stakes and to be more and more brutal. I like it not only because it has very violent and awesome action scenes, and not only because the stunt work in it was absolutely amazing, but also because it is a very well made movie and has a great story and involvement with characters. It's an action tragedy and this is what differs it from the first Raid, it actually has a good story.

PS: having an Oscar is a bragging status, but it doesn't say a lot about the movie. A lot of bad movies won Oscars, the voting and winners in many cases have nothing to do with the quality of the movie.

I find repetitive action scenes with the same choreography in different locations to be rather dull. Personally, I preferred the second [movies]because it offered more variations in its action sequences. The choreography was better executed, and the slower pace allowed for a clearer understanding of what was happening on screen. While Chapter 4 did have a few enjoyable moments, such as the intense car fighting and the visually captivating view from the top during the house shootout, the overall film felt monotonous. It was challenging for me to maintain interest, particularly due to the nonsensical nature of the story.

@jackwood22, nice, much better. Feel free to do that every time.

It was super repetitive and got old real fast and the gun fights were just ridiculous. For the most part it was like watching some kids play airsoft against each other the way they were shooting at each other all the time and depending on how relevant the character was to the plot the bullets generally either did absolutely nothing or slightly wounded them until John Wick could engage them in some fisticuffs and grappling and shoot them in the head. Just skip the repetitive and silly Imanari rolls and other misplaced BJJ/SW stuff and shoot them in the head in the first place and save the viewers time at least. Should have called this one "John Wick 4: Gun go bang bang". Not that the previous ones were much better.

p.s. on a somewhat related note : did Ian McShane get dentures or what is going on with his teeth in the movie?

I agree with most that it was a bit too repetitive and John Wick is basically indestructible to getting hit by a car or falling from a high building onto a car. Having to suspend disbelief is a must if you want to enjoy this.

And you just knew Caine and the black dude (who was a pointless character) were going to live at the end, they really should've died, along with the dog.
