Discuss The Silencing

I'm going to straight up giveaway the ending to make a point so look away if you plan on watching this stinker: So what happens when a doctor's (apparently a surgeon) daughter gets hit by a drunk driver and is left in the forest to die. Well, of course the respected doctor becomes a cookie cutter serial killer who hunts teenage girls with an atlatl in a forest in a ghillie suit. Why teenage girls or why an atlatl or why anything you might ask? Well you can keep asking because the movie doesn't explain any of it.

I also have to marvel at the cavalier attitude shown by the main character Nikolaj Coster-Waldau towards everything. I love how he doesn't bother to get a cellphone or any kind of phone despite the fact that his car keeps breaking down (to service a crappy script). Also the fact that he witnesses and survives an attack by a demented serial killer isn't enough to convince him to get a phone. In fact his run in with the serial killer in his own forest and home doesn't even phase him and he seems to have no concerns returning to the home where the killer just tried to kill him. This who cares attitude is even better served when he finds out where the serial killer lives. So what does he do: a) call the police with the neighbours phone and inform them, b) find out at least what the killers name is from the neighbour, c) at least arm himself properly before confronting the killer or d) none of the above and break into the killers house with a screw driver. Well, you can probably guess the answer.

I also have to wonder how long would this serial killer's "career" last with him being a doctor/surgeon in small town when the killer obviously does meticulous surgical procedures on the victims' vocal cords/larynx. Nah, the cops will probably think it was done by some hobo.

Agreed, the script was sloppy, the editing was awful, and some of the performances were dire. A “stinker” is right.

I started this but fell asleep and could not track the plot anyway. I should have got a clue when the description said “a reformed hunter” joins police...and I had to read it 3 times. What the heck is a “reformed” hunter? Then the script clumsily fleshed that out with awkward dialog and a literal show-and-tell with the kiddies. So dumb, and seemingly irrelevant to the plot! Also, why “reformed” rather than “former”? As if now this terrible hunter has left his wicked ways and stopped his evil hunting. I’m glad I fell asleep and decided to check the board. How does this have a 65%? Crazy.

Add to the questionable plot the fact that the sheriff passes in front of the monitors (called by the dog) exactly as the killer passes in front of the cameras. Great timing!
