Have any of you seen 'Russian Ark'? I have wanted to see it for years but haven't been able to find it on DVD.
I’ve seen it and hated it!
Why? I heard that it was fantastic.
Oh, by all means give it a try when you have a chance. Most people who see it respond very well to it. I love well-done historical films and lavish costumes, but I found Russian Ark painful to sit through, dreary and thoroughly unengaging. But yes, it is generally considered to be excellent.
It was released in the UK & Ireland in 2000 and at the AFI festival in the US (to make it eligible for award season). But it never even got a 'wide release' in the US, it had a 'limited' release in the US in June of 2002.

Another really hard one. It seems this was a great period for cinema. I really wanted to do another 10 but I disciplined myself.
